At art!space, we are proud of our designing capability, and truly enjoy helping our customers find the perfect solution for each framing project. We practice conservation framing using the highest quality methods and materials available in the framing industry. (If you desire plain glass without UV protection, we can do that, too; but we will advise you that your art is subject to fading and deterioration.)
We work with you on the design elements and check with you during the process if we have any questions, to ensure the result is what you ordered. Your artwork or memorabilia never leaves our premises, where it is secure and insured (many chain stores send framing work off premises). Because we work directly with our clients and the work is done here at our studio, there is less room for mistaken order taking or making assumptions by a framer who never met the client.
Custom framing provides framing solutions comprised of both practical considerations and design elements, including:
-
Overall design. This includes the layout, colors, shapes, depths, style, and relative sizes of materials (proportions).
-
The environment where the work will hang. This influences the style of moulding, overall size, the type of glazing used for safety, and more. We consider the room in the home and its colors, style, existing frames, and so on. If art is to be used in an office, business, or restaurant, there are additional considerations of scale and decor that the designer will discuss with the client.
-
The size required by the art (or objects) to achieve a pleasing and balanced result.
-
The materials used within the frame package that will minimize deterioration over the years (acid free mounting board, dust cover, tapes, hinges, etc.).
-
Techniques used to mount shadowbox items with no glue and no damage to the items, all the while making it a reversible procedure.
Mouldings we use: Larson-Juhl, Nielsen, Clark.
Mats: 100% Cotton Rag & archival board by Bainbridge, Crescent, Artique.
Glazings: We use Tru Vue products with UV filtering properties, including Museum Glass. Regular glass or plain acrylic is also available.
